Bed Bug Seminar

Bed bug seminar

Last night our own Melissa Asplund attended a Bed Bug Seminar offered by the California Apartment Association in San Mateo, CA.

The theme was bed bug misinformation so let's see how much you know about bed bugs!

TRUE or FALSE:

Bed bugs are more common in lower income households.

FALSE

Bed bugs are equal opportunity pests, infesting 5-star hotels and multimillion dollar mansions just as easily as studio apartments.

TRUE or FALSE

You can prevent bed bugs by having a clean house.

FALSE

Clean or dirty, if a breeding bed bug gets into your house, it will find you and bite you. Bed bugs don't need dirt, they just need blood.

TRUE or FALSE

Bed bug sprays you see on TV can get rid of a bed bug infestation naturally.

FALSE

The bed bug sprays advertised on television even admit that they kill bed bugs "on contact." What they don't add is that if the spray doesn't touch the bug, it doesn't kill it. It's not like the traps for other bugs that take poison back to the other bugs. Bed bugs hide. The likelihood that your natural spray will hit each and every bug--let alone every egg--is infinitessimal.

TRUE or FALSE

It is possible to eliminate an entire bed bug infestation without pesticides in one day.

TRUE!

High temperatures over a period of hours will kill every bed bug--egg, nymph and breeding adult--in one treatment without dangerous chemical pesticides or residues.
