Bed Bugs No Fun at San Diego State

San Diego State University

Alliance CEO Joe McLean just sent me this story about a student at San Diego State University--well within our service area--and her problem with bed bugs.

She and her roommates live in off-campus housing infected with the pests. The landlord expects them to pay for treatment. Their lease is up today, but the landlord is expecting the students to pay for extermination and inspections. Unless he can prove that they brought in the bugs, he should not be able to keep their deposit. The students say the bugs were there when they moved in. Watch the video on Channel 8 News:

We hope that everyone who moves into a new apartment, house or dorm room checks for these signs of bed bugs from the Environmental Protection Agency:

Dark spots which may bleed on the fabric like a marker would
Eggs and eggshells, which are tiny (about 1mm) and white
Skins that nymphs shed as they grow larger
Live bed bugs
Rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses caused by bed bugs being crushed

And it's not just beds that need to be inspected! Bed bugs can be found in and around drawers, behind picture frames, in any crack or crevice large enough to fit a credit card in, and in the seams of mattresses or other upholstered furniture.

Do you inspect hotel rooms and other places you will be sleeping for signs of bed bugs? You should!

And if you have a bed bug infestation in San Diego or anywhere else in California, call Alliance Environmental Group. We use high temperatures to kill off infestations in one treatment, without leaving chemical residue or the need to move out, bag food or wash your personal belongings. Heat gets into every crack and kills adult bed bugs, nymphs and eggs wherever they lurk.

Summer vacation can't start soon enough for these SDSU students, but we are three weeks in up here! Hope you're having a great time this summer and not getting bitten--by anything!
