We Three Molds...

Did you know...

Although there are over 1,500,000 species of mold on the earth, they have been classified into only 3 basic types. They are classified by how the human body tends to react to them. I read about "The Three Types of Mold" in a blog post from our Tweeps at GotMold and thought our readers might be interested in what I learned. GotMold is a mold removal company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

There are three basic types of mold: Allergenic, Pathogenic and Toxigenic.

Allergenic Molds

These are molds which cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals and sometimes asthma attacks. It is often difficult to determine exactly which mold is causing the reaction and the most common sufferers from exposure to these molds are children.

Pathogenic Molds

These molds are problematic for people with weakened or compromised immune systems and can cause symptoms similar to bacterial pneumonia. Mold can actually grow in the lungs of these individuals and become extremely dangerous.

Toxigenic Molds

As you would gather from the name, these are commonly known as toxic mold and will cause illness in anyone exposed, regardless of their health status, allergies or age. They produce toxic chemicals that can be deadly. People are vulnerable to these mycotoxins via the air, eating food (like peanuts) that has mold growing on it or by touching it, as could easily happen when cleaning or removing it without proper protection.

Everyone gets a little mold or mildew in the bathroom on occasion and unless you are sensitive or allergic, you can deal with that yourself. But if you are experiencing a serious mold problem, especially if you are having a reaction to it, you should call in a professional to remove it and make sure it won't come back.

Alliance Environmental Group offers mold removal services all over California. We deal with all types of mold in all kinds of places including:

  • Basements
  • Bathrooms
  • Ceilings
  • Commercial buildings
  • Crawlspaces and attics
And anywhere else mold can grow (which is anywhere damp). Contact Alliance for help!
And remember to hose down your holiday tree before you bring it inside in case it is harboring mold!
