Health Problems from Mold: Memory and Anxiety

We are used to hearing about lung and allergy problems from mold spores. And they make sense to us: breathe in mold spores and they will affect your respiratory and immune systems. QED.

But what if mold also caused mental health issues? It might!

Studying Health Problems from Mold

Researchers at the City University of New York did a study on mice. They exposed them to low concentrations of mold spores 3 times a week for three weeks. The results?

After 3 weeks, the subject mice did not appear to be sick. But compared to the control group of mice, they had difficulty remembering a scary place. They also had much higher anxiety than the control group.

"Exposure to mold’s toxins and structural proteins may trigger an immune response in the brain. The findings...may help explain some of the conditions that people living in moldy buildings complain about, such as anxiety and cognitive problems." Science News

Preventing Health Problems from Mold

Mold spores are present everywhere and there is really nothing we can do about that. What we can do is try to prevent it growing where it can affect our health and get rid of it when it gets a chance to take hold. Remember it only takes 24-48 hours for mold growth to begin in a damp area.

If you have health problems that you think may be mold related, don't wait--get that mold taken care of. If you are in California, Alliance Environmental Group can kill and remove mold from residential and commercial properties before it starts to make you cough or neeze, triggers an asthma attack, or makes you anxious and forgetful.

None of us can afford to suffer needlessly from mold. Get your mold problems eradicated today!
