Hidden Hazard:Asbestos

A very serious case has been in investigation by OSHA because workers and patients have been exposed to asbestos at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Carolina. Debris was found in the sub-basements. Asbestos was found around pipes, under the HVAC duct and around air handling units. Asbestos became a hidden hazard. An asbestos expert was called to look at images that were taken of the area and stated that there are many OSHA violations. Many pipes are tagged with an asbestos sign and other pipes are duct taped together instead of being replaced. Workers were also not given the correct equipment. The asbestos expert also states that if any worker is exposed not only are they exposed to debris, dust and asbestos but as well as their families because they take it back home. It is a serious case that is still under investigation.
