Bedbug Soldiers

Normally, we would say there is nothing good about bed bugs. Why do they even exist, when their purpose seems to be only to torment us, cause anxiety as well as physical reactions, and they are so difficult to eradicate?

But back during the conflict in Vietnam, scientists found a way to make bed bugs useful!

They had already developed technology to sniff out where people were hiding. They used a device mounted on a helicopter to detect human beings lurking where they shouldn't be. One problem--were they friends or enemies?

Bed bugs weren't any better at determining identity, but their sense of smell is incredibly sensitive. Entomologists found that bed bugs could detect the approach of strangers as far away as 50 yards. The signals given by the bugs were amplified and sent to a listening soldier in time to prevent an ambush.

I expect we have better technology today for detecting and identifying enemy combatants, but at least there has been one good use for the existence of bed bugs to remember when we encounter one and think of it as the enemy!

If you have bed bugs in your home, you are probably not spending a lot of time coming up with good uses for them, you just want them dead and gone. Alliance Environmental is here to help with heat treatment to eradicate them in one visit, eggs, nymphs and breeding adults, with no chemical residue or pesticides to damage your belongings and your health. Contact us for help with bed bugs anywhere in California!

Now if only we could come up with a good reason for mosquitos...

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those lost in the terrible tragedy in Connecticut on Friday. Peace on earth.
