World Cancer Day 2014


Today is World Cancer Day: a day where the entire world raises awareness against cancer. There are several adverse affects associated with asbestos exposure, including lung cancer and mesothelioma. The Asbestos Disease Awareness website shares information about "Debunking the Myths about Asbestos." There are several myths about asbestos and the website shares 6 facts about asbestos:

FACT: Asbestos is legal and lethal in the USA.

FACT: Asbestos kills 30 Americans every day and imports continue.

FACT: Prevention remains the only cure.

FACT: There is no safe level of asbestos exposure.

FACT: All six types of asbestos are carcinogenic.

FACT: Asbestos causes mesothelioma as well as lung, gastrointestinal, laryngeal, and ovarian cancers and other non-malignant lung and respiratory diseases.

As of now there are currently 573 events planned for World Cancer Day 2014. In California there are going to be 4 events. In San Diego D&K Engineering and over 50 of their employees will be shaving their heads and making a donation in support of Cancer Awareness. At the University of Southern California (USC) there will be a Luminaria Ceremony today at 9:30pm. The International Myeloma Foundation in North Hollywood will be sharing information on their social media sites. In San Francisco, there will be a Candlelight Virgil at Harvey Milk Plaza.
